ABOUT US
Monograms by Jane was started in 1982 by Jane Roberts. She learned how to run a chain-stitch machine, embroidering names on various items sold through Walter Drake, a mail order company. Eventually, she received more experience while working at Lorig’s, a western clothing store, which also offered uniforms. Needing to supplement her income, she purchased assorted machines and started her own business out of a room built on the back of her home. After completing some very large flags for The Citadel Mall, she took the fee and opened a shop on Platte Avenue.
She acquired a couple of computerized embroidery machines, to make the work easier and efficient. In 1998, she was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, making it increasingly difficult to handle the day-to-day activities of running the shop. However, she “soldiered” on.
In 2009, Jane decided that she needed to close down the shop and move all of the equipment and supplies to her home. She wanted to retire and only perform work for a few loyal customers. After 27 years, she figured that she deserved a break.
Here’s where I enter the picture. My name is Deanna. I am Jane’s daughter. In January of 2010, I began to work full time, managing the shop by myself. I discovered a new appreciation for the creativity of embroidery and assisting customers with their needs. I love being able to show people how to change a simple garment into something unique. I also like working with businesses, creating an embroidered version of their logos.
